Kanchanaburi is home to the Bridge over the River Kwai. Poignant memorials to the area’s second world war history can be combined with a trip on the infamous Death Railway as well as river trips and a visit to an elephant sanctuary. Khao Sok is a large inland national park and home to 180 bird species, clouded leopards, tigers and many other forms of wildlife. Nature enthusiasts can visit in a day from Krabi or stay overnight to enjoy this protected rain forest area. Hiking, canoeing and elephant trekking can be done here. The best time to visit is between January-April

Chiang Rai is a small town north of Chiang Mai used as a base for more remote trekking trips to see hill tribes, the Golden Triangle and rafting when the seasonal conditions are at their best.
